Recommended Approaches

The purpose of the NaPDI Center recommended approaches is to help researchers develop evidence-based, standardized methods to address the challenges unique to natural product-drug interaction research. Addressing these challenges requires a multidisciplinary team of clinical pharmacologists, medicinal chemists, natural products chemists, biomedical informaticists, and health communication experts. The recommended approaches are intended to be dynamic and reflective of the most current data available.

The rationale for creating the NaPDI Center, decision trees developed to enhance the conduct of natural product-drug interaction studies, and a framework for communicating results are detailed in the following publication: Paine MF, Shen DD, McCune JS. Recommended Approaches for Pharmacokinetic Natural Product-Drug Interaction Research: a NaPDI Center Commentary. Drug Metab Dispos 46:1041-5, 2018. PMID: 29735755.
