Study Rationale

Kratom products contain a variety of alkaloid compounds responsible for reported pharmacologic action including opiate-like effects1-3.  The primary active alkaloid is mitragynine, and other oxindole and indole alkaloids exist in M. speciosa such as 7-hydroxymitraginine1-3. Even though the compound has been used for generations in Thailand and Malaysia as component of traditional medicine1-3, rigorous content characterization of the plant and kratom products have been conducted much more recently. Further study is needed to establish kratom safety, efficacy, and potential for drug interactions5.
